Expert pinpoints when Meghan Markle may decide to make her return to UK

EXCLUSIVE: Meghan Markle has chosen to avoid the UK for almost two years, but there is one request that could bring her back.

Meghan Markle is likely to stay away from the UK “for the foreseeable future” due to her lack of popularity, an expert has claimed, however King Charles could encourage her to return for one reason.

Since Meghan and Prince Harry moved to Montecito in California back in 2020, they have kept their family life over there relatively private with only occasional trips back home for the Prince.

Meghan, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet have only been back to Britain once as a family – for the Platinum Jubilee in June 2022 – the one time the King was able to meet his youngest granddaughter.

The last time the Duchess of Sussex came over was just three months later for Queen Elizabeth’s funeral, and has avoided all royal invites since then, even skipping the Coronation.

The King’s lack of contact with the American side of his family is understandably painful for him and may be the cause for Meghan finally travelling back to the UK with Archie and Lilibet.

Royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams told Express.co.uk: “She is deeply unpopular here and knows it. The polls simply confirm it and the media detest her.

“So she will stay away for the foreseeable future. With the royal rift as deep as it clearly is she was wise not to stray beyond Heathrow en route to Nigeria, after Harry went to the St Paul’s commemorative service for Invictus.”

However he then added: “She might of course, bring Archie and Lili to see their grandfather, King Charles, but the circumstances where that might be a possibility currently clearly do not apply. However if she were to, her reception would obviously be more muted.”

Data collected by YouGov between May 1 and May 2 this year back up Mr Fitzwilliams’ words, as Meghan was disliked by 65 percent of those surveyed.

Amongst those 45 percent said their view of the Duchess was “very negative” and 20 percent claimed it was “fairly negative”, with only four percent saying they felt “very positively” about her.

Overall Meghan’s net approval rating in May had dropped to minus 43, down five points from April when her approval rating was minus 38.

Despite missing his grandchildren the King is currently in no hurry to welcome the Sussexes back with open arms, with an insider claiming he prefers not to “dwell” on the fallout.

A royal source told The Daily Beast: “Relations are as bad as they have ever been. Nothing has been resolved. But Charles does not spend a great deal of time dwelling on the matter because he is so busy.”

The King has been making a return to royal duties following his cancer diagnosis and is set to attend Trooping the Colour with several other royals on June 15.
